YOUTH SUMMER CAMPS


June 24-27, 2013, Monday-Thursday – 9 a.m.-12 p.m. – Thursday – 12 p.m. concert for family and friends

A half-day camp designed for 1st and 2nd year string players in 6th grade or younger.
With instructors Becky Bush and Sara Jager.

String Camp will offer:

  • ORCHESTRA – large ensemble experience
  • SECTIONALS – small group, instrument specific rehearsals
  • NEW TECHNIQUES – introductory skills for advanced techniques, including shifting and vibrato
  • FUN WAYS TO LEARN (and meet new friends) – games and mixers with other string students
  • SNACKS – yum! everyday!

FINALE – performance in Royce Auditorium

July 8-12, 2013, 8:30 a.m.-3 p.m., Ages 8-14

The camp will focus on the art of performing solo piano works as well as ensemble duets and trios. Students will work directly with esteemed composer Timothy Brown, who is an exclusive writer with the The FJH Music Company. He will coach students on original ensemble compositions as well as other duet and ensemble pieces. Dr. Helen Marlais, master teacher, pianist, and author of many critically acclaimed piano series, including Succeeding at the Piano®, will give an honors masterclass as well. Piano students will also receive individual and ensemble lessons, theory and ear-training classes, music history, and supervised practice time by a variety of excellent piano teachers.

  • Piano ensemble coaching

SWIM AND GYM AT DAVID D. HUNTING Y:
Optional supervised play time 3:15-5 p.m. Monday through Thursday

FINAL RECITAL:
Friday, 11:30 a.m. Students perform duets and trio compositions from FJH Music Company and debut their original class compositions for an audience of parents and guests. Solo honor students will present their pieces. Ice cream social to follow!

TEEN MUSICIANS WANTED:

  • 12-18 year olds with some experience on guitar, bass, drum set, keyboards or vocals!

A REALLY COOL GIG:

  • Forming bands and rehearsing for a rock concert finale at the Intersection
  • Coaching by The Outer Vibe
  • Learning tips and techniques for performance and stage presence, marketing and promoting shows, songwriting and more.

THE BIG FINALE SUNDAY, JULY 21 at THE INTERSECTION 6 p.m.
Everyone will be rockin’ and rollin’ to the performances of the Rock Camp bands, The Outer Vibe and other area bands.

ADULT SUMMER CAMPS

June 17-20, 9:30-11:30 a.m. – Thursday finale at Rosa Parks Circle, 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.

This week will offer a relaxed and social atmosphere with director Chris Hansen leading the group in some great band favorites. The group will play through a variety of music the first day in order to choose a specific pieces to prepare for their grand finale performance on Thursday afternoon. This final performance will be free and open to the public.
