Summer Music Camps

Adult Summer Camp – June 25-29, 2017
Grand Band Camp

  •  A relaxed and social atmosphere for musicians of varying ages.
  • This camp features a variety of music including great band favorites with a focus on sight reading and performance skills.
  • The camp will culminate with a community concert. 
  • Camp runs from 9:30-12:00 am Monday through Friday.  
  • Ages 12 to 100. Tuition $50 per person

Stella Royce Piano Camp – July 9-13, 2018

The Stella Royce Piano Camp is an intensive week-long camp for students ages 7-15.
Daily activities include:

  • Private Piano lessons
  • Ensemble lessons
  • Theory classes
  • Composition activities
  • Musical games
  • History classes
  • Practice time

Each activity is taught or supervised by exceptional talented faculty.

Students work with a featured composer each year and perform ensemble pieces by this composer. This year the featured composer is EDWIN MCLEAN from FJH Music Company.

Special events include solo and ensemble masterclasses, composition workshops, recitals and time with the composer. A final recital on Friday features the world premiere of ensemble pieces written by our featured composer and performances by every student. This camp is an engaging and educational experience for young pianists.

Camp runs from 8:40 am to 3 pm with free YMCA play time from 3-5pm after camp.

GRAND RAPIDS CHAMBER MUSIC PROGRAM
July 30- August 3, 2018

Violin, Viola, Cello, Bass and Piano students welcome.

The Grand Rapids Chamber Music Program provides students an opportunity to study chamber music during this week-long camp.   Students will be placed in chamber groups according to their age, level, and instrumentation. (If musicians are in an ensemble, they may request to stay together.)

Daily activities include:

  • Chamber ensemble coaching –trios, quartets, and quintets.
  • Chamber Orchestra – violinist, rapper and director Rodney Page will engage students in a unique and energetic ensemble experience with original compositions alongside classic chamber literature.
  • Theory classes.
  • Creative Connections Workshop-led by Jill Warne, Creative Connections founder, this workshop is a unique opportunity for musicians to creatively explore and express stories, ideas and emotions through music.
  • Practice time- students will learn proper rehearsal techniques with help from our fellows and faculty.

Students will work with outstanding coaches from around the country, including Ani Gregorian-Resnick from New York, Rodney Page from Lansing, Michigan and Rachel Huch from Cleveland, Ohio.

Special events are held each day, including cello and violin choir, masterclasses, faculty performances, recitals and more. The culmination is the final recital for the chamber ensembles on Friday. This camp is an engaging and educational experience for young string musicians and pianists. 

String Camp runs from 9 am to 4 pm Monday through Thursday and 9:30 to 5 pm on the final Friday. The final performance will be at 3 pm with a reception to follow.
Be prepared to submit a recording upon request.
