Youth Ensembles

St. Cecilia Music Center’s Youth Ensembles offer a unique opportunity for students in Grades 3-12 to practice, perform and perfect their instrument of choice. Students have the opportunity to work with professional musicians from the area in sectional rehearsals.

Orchestra and Band Program

An advanced entry-level string orchestra introducing beginners to the elements of teamwork and ensemble performance. Conductor Erin DeYoung, Rehearsal Mondays, 5:30-6:45 p.m. Tuition is $396 per year, $198 per semester or $44 per month (9 months) Starts Monday September 11

Concert Orchestra
A preparatory string ensemble for intermediate students with moderate ensemble experience. Conductor Patricia Wunder, Rehearsal Mondays, 6-7:30 p.m. Tuition is $396 per year, $198 per semester or $44 per  month (9 months) Starts Monday September 11.

An advanced orchestra, complete with strings, woodwinds, brass, and percussion, playing challenging works from classical, musical and film scores. Conductor Dan Scott, Rehearsal Mondays, 7:15-9:15 p.m. Tuition is $396 per year, $198 per semester or $44 per month (9 months) Starts Monday September 11

Concert Band
An advanced middle school wind, brass and percussion ensemble for students grades 6-9 focusing on mostly traditional band music and challenging works by local musicians. Conductor Cullen McCarthy, Rehearsal Tuesdays, 7-8:30 p.m.

Tuition is $396 per year, $198 per semester or $44 per month (9 months) Starts Tuesday September 12

Jazz Program

Jazz Combo and Jazz Band
Participants are divided into Beginner/Intermediate Jazz Combo or Advanced Level Jazz Band focusing on jazz repertoire and improvisation for winds, strings, piano, bass, guitar and drums.  Auditions required. Instructors are Dr. Robin Connell (Combo) Tuesdays 6:00pm Dr. Paul Brewer (Jazz Band) Tuesdays 7:30pm

Tuition is $150 for an 8 week session.  Starts Tuesday November 7

Tuition is $300 for the winter 16 week session Discount to sign up for full year.    Starts January 30, 2018.


Required Auditions
Youth ensemble placement auditions are held in June, September and January by appointment and are required for all new youth ensemble students. Current Youth Ensemble students wishing to move up must be in first or second chair place to move up in January. If you take a semester off from ensembles you must audition again to return to your current ensemble or to move up. Auditions to move up are scheduled in June and September.


Early Registration for Returning Students
Early registration for the fall semester begins in August. If the previous season’s tuition has not been paid in full by August 31, students must make arrangement with the education director before registering.

Checks made out to SCMC, cash, money order, Visa, Mastercard or Discover are accepted. A $10 fee will be charged for returned checks. Payment plans may be arranged through the education director. Online payment is also available.

Financial Aid
Limited financial aid is available to adult and youth students who demonstrate a financial need. To apply please print out the form below and return it to the education office with the required $25 deposit. SCMC reserves the right to discontinue any financial aid award because of frequent absences or tardiness, or because of delinquent payments.

Youth and Adult Ensemble Drop and Refund Policy
Students dropping the program after the 2nd week of rehearsals or before the mid-semester deadline (fall, November 14; spring, March 14) will receive a 50 percent refund for that semester if full tuition has been paid. Students dropping after mid-semester will not receive a refund. A drop form must be received by the deadline or the full tuition will be due.
